Mentoring España in Andalusia

The MentoringProgram of Matilda Raffa Cuomo arrives in Spain to prevent and stop the widespread and worrying phenomenon of early school leaving which causes social curses such as bullying, baby gangs, hooliganism etc...The Educational program was explained for the first time by Mrs. Cuomo, when she was the First Lady of the State of New York, to Queen Sophia. Later on it has been successfully realized in Italy by Sergio Cuomo, Chairperson of Mentoring USA/Italy who strongly wanted with Mrs. Cuomo the realization of this program in Italy. The Educational intervention is based on the one-to-one method designed by Mrs. Cuomo in the years in which her husband Mario was governor of the American State to offer an efficient answer to juvenile malaise. Last May 2nd it was held in Algeciras, in Andalusia, the first training course for volunteer Mentors who, during the school year, will work with the kids of the school involved in order to instill in them self-esteem and offer them edifying perspectives for the future. In Italy, in 13 years of activities, 8000 kids and indirectly their families have benefited from the one-to-one method regaining a role of active citizens in the Community. The course has been held by Vito Giuseppe Giacalone, General Director of Mentoring USA/Italy Programs, together with Jose Carlos Cabrera Mentoring representative in Spain. The activity of Mentoring is supported by public and private institutions as well as the invaluable work of volunteer Mentors.
On December 10th it has taken place the opening ceremony of the first Mentoring Program at the Childhood and Primary Education School Tartessos in Algeciras, Andalusia.
